Maggie DiNome, MD, FACS, FSSO

 Dr. DiNome is the current Chief of General Surgery at Saint John's Hospital. She is a Board Certified general surgeon, who focuses her clinical expertise and research on cancer surgery. As a Fellow of the Society for Surgical Oncology, she is particularly dedicated to caring for patients with breast and colorectal cancer. Dr. DiNome is also the co-Chair of the Cancer Committee at Saint John's Hospital, and has served as the Cancer Liaison Physician for the hospital for the past several years.

Dr. DiNome graduated cum laude from Yale University in 1989. As a medical student, she was named a Charles Strickland Academic Scholar. In 1994, she received her medical degree from Duke University, and was award- ed the Hewlett-Packard Top Medical Graduate Award, an honor given nationally to the five graduating students who ranked the highest academically at the conclusion of their final two years. She completed her internship and residency in general surgery at the Brigham and Women's Hospital of Harvard Medical School, and served as a Clinical Fellow of Surgery for Harvard University.

As a resident in surgery, Dr. DiNome was awarded the Bayer Research Fellowship Award by the Association for Academic Surgery. She chose to complete a two-year surgical research fellowship at UCLA in the field of surgical oncology. She has since published several articles in leading, peer-reviewed journals in both the cancer and general surgical fields.

Dr. DiNome is one of the few surgeons in the Los Angeles area who routinely performs laparoscopic surgery for colon cancer. She has valuable experience performing this surgery, and lectures throughout the Los Angeles area to physicians regarding this approach.

As a breast surgeon, Dr. DiNome focuses on the aesthetic aspects of breast surgery, for patients with benign disease as well as breast cancer. She is also trained in the placement of the Mammosite catheter as an alternative form of radiation therapy. Dr. DiNome is currently writing a book on breast cancer to help patients better understand this disease and to help them navigate their way towards a cure.
